Nayanthara fairly decent though short role in Simha

nayanthara

The year 2010 so far has seen an interesting mix of films within the commercial format -- some hard core masala, while others have been thought-provoking.

The first half belongs to the younger heroes like Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu, Rana Daggubati and Akkineni Naga Chaitanya who have made a mark with their films.

Here’s the list of five top films from January to June which have more or less struck a balance between commercial success and critical acclaim.

Simha was a perfect film for Balakrishna’s fans as it had all the staple ingredients -- high-voltage action, excessive violence and songs. But it was something to cheer about for Balayya. He put in a restrained performance (more so in the flashback episode) which won him praise.

Fully made in the commercial genre, Simha had three heroines -- Nayanthara, Namita and Sneha wherein Nayanthara had a fairly decent though short role.

The film, essentially made with Balayya’s image in mind, brought a smile on his face as it tasted success at the box office. Balayya’s dull patch came to an end with Simha.

Supposed to have been made on a Rs 16 crore budget, Simha seems to have grossed over Rs 45-50 crore.

‘Adurs’, starring Jr NTR, Nayanthara and Sheela

a

‘Adurs’, starring Jr NTR, Nayanthara and Sheela, will be dubbed in Malayalam and released on the same day as its Teluguoriginal. Superhit director VV Vinayak has not left any stone unturned to make the film an all-out entertainer. The filmmakers believe the glamour girls would do the trick for them in Kerala.

Nayantara’s revealing outfits in the film would up the temperatures in theatres, they say. She reportedly dons a bikini for a song in this film. Her bikini-act in Ajit starrer ’Billa’ had been a rage in south India and later many heroines, including National Award winner Priyamani followed suit. The film has some superbly choreographed action sequences.

Devi Sri Prasad composes the music. The movie is slated for a July release.

“Boss Engira Baskaran is a romantic laugh riot”

a

Director Rajesh, who made a successful debut in ’Siva Manasula Sakthi’ has almost completed his next film titled ’Boss Engira Baskaran’. “Boss Engira Baskaran is a romantic laugh riot”, assures Rajesh.

Starring Arya and Nayantara in the lead roles, the movie is produced by Vasan Visuals Ventures which had earlier produced Bala’s ’Naan Kadavul’.

Arya plays a light-hearted role. Nayantara joins hands with Arya for the first time and plays a traditional Tamil girl with de-glam looks. The chemistry between Arya and Nayantara is amazing and is worth waiting for, says Rajesh.

The story is a character-driven in which all artistes have significant role. Santhanam, ‘Naan Kadavul’ Rajendran, Vijayalakshmi and Lakshmi Ramakrishnan play pivotal roles in the film, informs Rajesh, who is getting ready to direct Udhayanidhi Stalin in his next, says.

It looks like sexy siren Nayanthara is in a mood to experiment

nayanat02

It looks like sexy siren Nayanthara is in a mood to experiment. After essaying numerous glam-centric roles, she is all set to unveil a new dimension in the Malayalam film Electra . “I am doing this film purely for creative satisfaction, as it offers me an opportunity to showcase my histrionics skills,” she confesses. She is joining hands with award-winning filmmaker Shyamprasad for her maiden offbeat movie. So, that means she needed to put in more homework for that role. “I am excited that I am going to explore a new genre and the director is insisting on spontaneity. So, I intend to go to the sets with an open mind,” she adds.

Another reason for the paradigm shift in her thinking process, she elaborates is because, “In most star centric movies (both Tamil and Telugu), actresses are confined to dancing around trees. I think there’s need to add something more substantial to our roles rather than making us mere glam props in big-ticket films, or else actresses like us will be deprived of the opportunity to showcase our versatility. Invariably, we have to fall back on either author-backed roles or significant roles in small budget films.”

So is she gravitating towards performance-oriented roles, due to stiff competition offered by upcoming starlets? “Every year innumerable girls take their maiden bow in films, but only a handful leave their mark. Also newcomers have to put in years of hard work and display their staying power. It will take most of them sometime before they can reach our position, so there’s no question of any comparison with them. However, there are filmmakers who want established actresses to add brand value to their mega bucks movies, invariably approach us,” she says with relish.

Nayanthara was busy dodging Arya’s advances and giving him the slip

nayanth

When we met Nayanthara recently, she was busy dodging Arya’s advances and giving him the slip. Now, now, before you let your imagination run wild, all the action was happening for the camera on the sets of Boss Engira Baskaran (BEB), directed by Rajesh M of Siva Manasula Sakthi fame.

“We’re shooting a song that features during a marriage. It’s so much fun doing a light-hearted flick,” begins Nayanthara, “I haven’t worked with Arya before and when I got an offer from Rajesh, I accepted it immediately. He is a sensible director and managed to gauge the pulse of the audience in his very first film. BEB is a complete entertainer. There are no messages to be delivered and promises to be kept.”

So, what is the movie all about? “It gives one a peek into a middle-class family. It’s a movie about Baskaran (Arya) who takes life as it comes. He doesn’t believe in working and I change his life completely!” she says and adds, “I play Chandrika, a sensible middle-class girl, who expects everyone to be practical.” Tell her the sketch reminds one of her character Keerthi in Yaaradi Nee Mohini and she shoots back, “Keerthi was nice and sweet, but she was complicated. She had some issues in life, but Chandrika doesn’t.”

This pretty actress also can’t stop raving about her co-star, Arya. “He is so much fun to work with. He always has a smile on his face and it’s impossible to get angry with him. We have a good chemistry and got along like a house on fire,” she says enthusiastically.

Ask Nayanthara, who has worked with many established actors, if she regrets having missed out on any offers and she replies philosophically, “It’s true I have missed out on a few projects that later went on to become hits but then, there are no regrets. I believe that what belongs to you will come to you.”

Though Nayanthara has only BEB in Tamil currently, she has her hands full with projects in three other south Indian languages. “I’ve Simha with Balakrishna, directed by Boyapati Srinu, in Telugu. I also have Electra with director Shyam Prasad in Malayalam. It’s an interesting script and I’m looking forward to shooting for it. If all goes well, I might also dub for myself in this movie. And in Kannada, I have a yet-to-be-titled film with Upendra,” she concludes.

Nayantara wearing paavadai and thaavani in 'Boss Engira Baskaran'

boss1

She is the hottest among the South heroines who dares to bare her svelte figure on-screen. We saw her as a semi-modern girl in ’Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ and now it’s a chance for us to see her donning full and full homely look.

When asked about Nayantara’s role in her latest venture ’Boss Engira Baskaran’ opposite Arya, director Rajesh said, "Seeing her talking fluently in Tamil is a pleasure. Her role in this film would take her to further heights. You can see a new Nayantara in ’BEB’, wearing paavadai and thaavani."

Sources in the know had it that our Glam Queen is doing the role of a girl from a middle class family. As the director believes shooting in real locations will increase the feel of the scene, he had asked Nayantara and Arya to board a local bus at Kumbakonam. Sadly the director had to wrap-up the shoot within half an hour as the stars created a big stir there. The locals wanted to steal a look of their favoutire actress in a homely look, they say.

‘BEB’ has offered Nayantara a meaty role and glam shun looks, let’s wait to see how it works for the hottie…
