Read any tabloid and it seems that you can say or write anything about her. She’s been the hunted..

Media vultures have been picking at the carcasses of her personal life ever since she tattooed Prabhu Deva’s name on her hand. Gossip columns in all the four south states are incomplete without news on her.

Currently, she is shooting in Bangalore for her first Kannada film opposite superstar Upendra and is enjoying every bit of it.

Says beaming Nayan: “I love Bangalore, the people and above all this unit. Everyone is going out of their way to make me feel comfortable and I feel so pampered. I have very good friends here and I meet up with them when I’m not shooting”

After the Bangalore shoot, Nayan will be off to London for a long schedule of the film and then joining noted director Shyamaprasad’s film in Kerala.

nay

After the success of Aadhavan in which she and Surya were absolutely stunning together with costumes to die for - and her cameo appearance in the fun-filled visual fest Goa, Diana Kurian’s career (that’s Nayanthara to you and me) is booming. She now feels confident enough to try different ideas in her movies. “I feel this is the time in my career when I need to concentrate on performance-oriented characters,” she says, “Of course, there’s nothing wrong in looking good on screen, but I also want to exhibit my acting potential. Henceforth, my films will have a mix of both - acting and glamour,”

One of the most interesting movies, the actress has lined up is the one that has no title other than the hand signal for ‘Super!’

The experimental movie, filmed on 35mm, will be directed by Real Star Upendra. “I am planning to shoot for 100 days in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and European countries,” he explains, “Nayanthara will be the main female lead and there will be another heroine in special appearance in the film.”

Nayanthara receiving praises for her first stage performance in Chennai

Nayanthara is over the moon, after receiving praises for her first stage performance in Chennai with her beloved Prabhu Deva!

Nayan and Prabhu had come together on stage last Saturday for Tamil film industry’s Pasa Thalaivar Parattu Vizha, to thank Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his largesse to the film industry.

The actress came from her shoot in Kumbakonam two days before the event to take part in rehearsals along with Prabhu Deva to get her steps and expressions correct for the item she was doing at the function. Nayan was in a happy mood as it was the first time she was been seen on a stage with Prabhu in Chennai

Remember that all actresses were asked to perform at the function and Nayan who tried to wriggle out stating that she has stage-fright finally succumbed as she thought that it was her duty to stand with the film fraternity. She was coordinating with Sidney Sladen who was designed her Anarkali style churidar suits that she was wore for her performance

Nayan is on cloud nine as the year has started on a positive note for her, with Adurs in Telugu and Bodyguard in Malayalam turning out to be hits. And the finest compliment she received was from her mother, who after seeing the Siddique directed Bodyguard told her- “Mole it is your best film and your performance is outstanding.”

Meanwhile Nayan had a hectic schedule as she flew to Bangalore, a day before the function for the photo shoot of her first Kannada film opposite Upendra. At the same time her Tamil film Boss Engira Bhaskaran with Arya is nearing completion and the actress has great expectations from it.

I need to concentrate on performance-oriented characters-Nayanthara

Aadhava

Super! That’s the response Real Star Upendra’s latest script elicited from Nayanthara. The hottie was in town last week for her first photo session with Uppi. Fans tripped over each other to get up close and personal with the two stars despite the location being closely guarded.

Ask the actress what made her agree to this film, and she says, “I think Upendra being a huge star and Rockline (Venkatesh) being a famous producer. I was sent a one-line synopsis by mail, which got me hooked.”

Recent talks suggest that the girl, who’s known for her glam quotient, wants to turn down the heat in her future films. Which is partly the reason she refused another Kannada film sometime ago. “Yes, I want to sober down. I feel this is the time in my career when I need to concentrate on performance-oriented characters. Of course, there’s nothing wrong in looking good on screen, but I also want to exhibit my acting potential. In this film, I play a Brahmin girl and have a lot of scope to showcase my acting prowess. Henceforth, my films will have a mix of both - acting and glamour,” she states.

She’s proved that she’s serious about her stance by signing an offbeat film on home turf - Kerala. “It’s by Shyam Prasad, who’s a National Award-winning director. Watch out for a different Nayanthara in that one,” promises the actress.

She’s also soaking up the success of Aadhavan, Adhurs and Bodyguard, which points to her hitmaker status in three languages - Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. But is it easy to stay on top always? Does she ever feel the competition? “Yes, competition does get to any actor. But people forgive your flops when you deliver a hit the next time. Also, once you’re an established actor, it doesn’t affect you much. Every one has his/her own place,” she explains. Among the younger lot, does she see anybody who has the ‘It’ factor? “There are many beautiful girls coming in. But I don’t see that spark in them. They need to work harder to make it big,” observes Nayan.

Being on top also means constant speculation. The one rumour that refuses to die down is that she will call it quits to get marrried. “In such situations, I do what I’m best at - stay calm. I don’t speak or clarify anything. If I do, they’ll publicise it even more. As for quitting, I’m not. But yes, like any other normal girl who dreams and should dream, I too want to settle down and have a family,” says Nayan.
